Mission and Vision of the Department

The mission of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department is to provide undergraduate and graduate level engineers, conduct research, and serve for the petroleum and natural gas industry and its relevant sectors worldwide, and to contribute for the sustainable development of the nation and for the commonalty in the utilization of subsurface energy resources.

In addition to fulfilling the objectives consistent with the department's mission, our vision is to keep our quality comparable to the highly credited departments of the internationally well-known universities.

Educational Objectives

1.  To provide basic and applied knowledge in petroleum and natural gas engineering with the emphasis on the areas of drilling, production, and reservoir based on mathematics, physics, thermodynamics and engineering sciences;

2.  To educate students in engineering application of technology and science emphasizing on up-stream and down-stream (production, transportation, and marketing), conducting experiment and system design, analyzing and interpreting data, formulating and solving problems while considering efficiency and optimization;

3.  To develop non-technical abilities of students in professional competency on legal, political, and social issues;

4.  To develop students’ abilities in resource valuation and management, entrepreneurship, commitment to public health, safety, and environment while considering the economics under the conditions of risk and uncertainty; 

5To improve the personal skills of students in oral and written communications, multidisciplinary team-work, analytical thinking and creativity, leadership and decision making with the discernment of professional ethics, and life long learning.


15. ITU Petroleum and Natural Gas Seminar and Exhibition

ITU Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department (PNGE) successfully organized and concluded the 15. ITU Petroleum and Natural Gas Seminar and Exhibition. In the first day of the seminar the speakers discussed the problems and the future of the Turkish petroleum industry. In the second day, scholarly presentations were made. The natural gas distribution system strategies for Turkish cities were discussed in the afternoon session. The closing activity for the seminar was the Bosporus tour and dinner on a boat. We also host our graduating students besides the seminar participants. We would like to thank to all participants and will be pleased to see them in Istanbul next year.
